Dress without stress in 6 steps
Why does my wardrobe never seem big enough? Why do I spend so much time making a decision about what to wear? Learn how to organise your wardrobe in such a way that you can dress without stress, in 6 steps.
My first attempt to change to ‘dress without stress’
Me a few years ago: Spend every morning standing in front of my wardrobe wondering what I could wear today. Why is there never enough in a wardrobe?
This simple task of getting dressed should be easier, I knew. But I did not know how.
First attempt in making it less stressful: I started with deciding what to wear the next day, the night before, which made quite a positive difference. I make decisions quicker in the night then half asleep and rushed in the morning. But I was not satisfied yet, it did not make enough of a difference. I was not enjoying the process of choosing. I was sure it should be more fun having the luxury of the ability to choose what to wear.
Second attempt to dress with less stress
I kept thinking about this issue.
I love the challenge of traveling with the least amount of luggage. Just for fun really. As a result I didn’t have to check in luggage and wait at the other of the flight for my suitcase to turn up. It came a sport to travel with as little as possible and still be comfortable. I loved this new simplicity.
Traveling with my minimal wardrobe made me realise that I had way more clothes at home than necessary and good for me. It can be so easy to choose what to wear. I always bring the clothes that are the most comfortable and I love to wear. I don’t mind at all to wear them again and again, because I love everything I have in my suitcase.
Every time when I come back at home I am surprised that there are so many items in my wardrobe I did not miss, not even when I left home (and my extended wardrobe) for a year!
Get dressed like you do when you are on a holiday
Why is getting dressed when you are on holiday so much easier, less stressful?
Because there are less choices/ options. You love everything there is in your little suitcase wardrobe. It does not really matter what you are going to wear.
While there seemed too little in my wardrobe, years ago, it turned out I had too many choices. The actual opposite…I had too much in my wardrobe.
Organise your home wardrobe like when you are traveling
How to get to a big enough, exciting smaller wardrobe you will love in 6 steps:
1 Take everything out of your wardrobe, put on your bed.
2 Sort in categories. ( all long sleeve t shirt together, all short sleeve etc. )
3 Now choose all your favourites of the current season, e.g. summer. Put them apart, sorted in their categories; short sleeve tops/long sleeve tops/ pants/skirts/….etc..
4 Imagine you are going to work and live somewhere else for two months.( You can’t pretend you are packing for a holiday as you will need your working clothes. ) Make sure you can combine the pieces you choose. E.g. three tops that go with one pair of pants. Put the pieces that make your favourite combinations back in the wardrobe.
5 Everything else, that you think you can live without the next two months, you put in the bags/boxes/bins, and store away. Store them far enough away to make it a hassle to get to it in them morning when you get ready to dress.
6 Now test your smaller wardrobe the coming months. Adapt to your needs. If you put away too much, take out only the pieces out of storage you remembered/missed. If you did not wear certain items you can store them away.

You should soon get an idea of what size wardrobe will work for you.
